FaithLog is a private journaling app. Your reflections are yours: we collect only what the app needs to work, we do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not use your data for advertising or cross-app tracking.

What we collect

Journal content. Your journals — text, drawings, photos, audio notes, imported PDFs and saved verses — are stored so they can sync between your devices and survive reinstalls.

What is encrypted.Your private journal content, your prayers, and your conversations with the AI companion are encrypted before they are stored in FaithLog's database, transmitted over secure connections, and made available only through authenticated FaithLog services.

What is not. Photos, audio and stickers you add are stored separately in protected media storage and are not covered by that encryption. Your daily mood check-ins, and the scripture reflections FaithLog generates from them, are also stored without it.

Account identifiers. When you first open FaithLog we create an anonymous account identifier so your journals can sync. No email, name or password is required to use FaithLog.

Email (optional). If you choose to protect your account for recovery, we store the email address (or the identifier provided by Apple or Google) that you link.

Purchases. If you buy Full Access, our payment partner RevenueCat processes the App Store purchase and we store your entitlement status. We never see your payment details.

Usage basics. We record the days you open the app to power your streak, and feature counters (for example how many reflection messages you have used today) to enforce plan limits.

Feedback you send us.If you write to us from the app (Profile → Send feedback, or after telling us FaithLog isn't working for you), we store what you wrote, encrypted, along with your app version, your phone's model and system version. It is emailed to the FaithLog team so we can read it. Your email address is included only if you ask us to reply. Nothing from your journals or prayers is attached.

AI features

Reflection Chat and similar features send only the content you explicitly submit to our AI provider to generate a response. FaithLog does not scan your journals in the background, does not build advertising profiles from them, and does not use your journals to train AI models. Yearly recap features (Wrapped) run only when you open them, over your own data.

Study Companion. When you turn the Companion on during a Bible study, FaithLog sends the passage reference and the note or answer you are currently writing to our AI provider; in Deep mode it also sends up to three short excerpts of your own earlier study notes for that book, chosen on your device. Nothing from your journals, prayers or Private Vault is included, nothing is sent while the Companion is off, and the exchange is not stored on our servers — only your daily usage count is. Everything else about a study stays between your devices: your place in a book and per-chapter progress are synced as plain metadata, your notes, questions and reflections are encrypted at rest (or end-to-end in your Private Vault), searching them from Home happens on your device only, and if you let a finished study session mark your Bible reading, our servers learn only that the day happened — never what you studied.

Journeys.A Journey is a week of guided devotions prepared from journals you choose. Before anything is sent, FaithLog shows you what it will read and asks for your consent; if you decline, nothing is sent. If you accept, the titles of the journals you selected and short excerpts of what is in them — typed words, handwriting and words in photos, read and chosen on your device — are sent to our AI provider (never the photos or drawings themselves), along with any Journey reflections you have let shape the days ahead. Bible passages that FaithLog placed in your journals are sent as references only. Journeys never read your other journals, your prayers, your mood check-ins, your conversations, your study groups or your Private Vault, and journals you share with other people can’t be used, because they hold other people’s writing. What is sent is not stored on our servers — only counts used for plan limits — and your Journey is kept on your device.

Prayer Drive.In Prayer Drive on CarPlay, FaithLog’s voice reads your prayers aloud. The opening words of each prayer (its title, or the start of the prayer if it has no title) are sent to our voice provider to be spoken, and so is the day’s prayer prompt from your Journey if you have one, which FaithLog wrote from the journals you chose. FaithLog does not keep this audio; the voice provider handles the words under its own data terms. For prayers in your Private Vault, only the title is sent, from your iPhone, because our servers cannot read the Vault; a Vault prayer without a title is never sent, and your iPhone’s own voice reads its opening words.

Study Groups

A Study Group is a small, invitation-only circle reading one book of the Bible together. Nothing you write goes into one unless you send it there. Your journals, prayers, private Study notes, Private Vault content and AI conversations are never shared with a group — not when you join one, not when you post in one, and not because the group happens to be reading the book you are studying.

When you deliberately publish a note or question to a group, that post is visible to the members of that group and is stored by FaithLog so the group can work. It is encrypted at rest on our servers, but it is not end-to-end encrypted and it is not Private Vault content — you have chosen to show it to other people. If you publish something that started as a private Study note, only the version you edited and sent is published; the original stays private and unchanged, and our servers never open it to build the post.

Your place in a book stays private unless you choose otherwise. Separately for each Study Group, you can share your current chapter or your exact passage with the other members — the default is to share nothing, and you can change or stop it at any time. Choosing a less specific option takes effect as soon as we confirm it: at “chapter only” the verse is never sent to anyone, not merely hidden. Sharing your position never shares anything else. Your study notes, questions, reflections, journals and prayers stay exactly as private as they were, and nobody — including the group’s host — can see a position you have not chosen to share.

To show you what has happened in your groups, we keep a record of each piece of activity: what kind of thing happened, which group and post it points at, who caused it, and when. Those records hold no part of what anyone wrote — opening one is what shows you the words, and only if you still have access to them.

If someone reports content for breaking our Community Standards, we keep that report — including what was reported and by whom — even if one of the accounts involved is later deleted. A safety record either person could erase by deleting their account would not be a safety record. It is the one thing that outlives an account deletion, and it is never used for anything else.

Shared journals

A journal is private unless you share it, and you share it one journal at a time, by sending someone a link or a code you created for that journal. Nothing joins anyone: the person you send it to sees who invited them and the journal’s title, and chooses whether to accept. There are two kinds of sharing, and the app says which one you are offering before you offer it.

Writing togetherkeeps one journal, owned by you, that everyone you have invited can read and change. Their edits and yours are kept together; when two people change the same paragraph at once, both versions are kept and the journal says so. The people in a shared journal see each other’s names, what is written in it, and who last edited it. You can remove anyone at any time, anyone can leave, and only you can delete the journal — which removes it from everyone. Shared journals are encrypted at rest on our servers like every journal, but they are not Private Vault content and cannot be moved into a Vault while shared: turning on Private Vault ends every share you have made.

Sending a copy gives the other person their own journal, including copies of its images and recordings stored under their account. From then on the two are independent: nothing either of you changes reaches the other, and deleting yours does not touch theirs.

The link and code are the only way in, they expire, and you can revoke them. We keep them only as hashes. Notifications about a shared journal — someone joining, leaving, being removed, or accepting a copy — carry names and the fact that it happened, never the journal’s title or contents. Your other journals, prayers, Study notes and Private Vault stay exactly as private as they were.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your data. We do not show ads. We do not track you across other apps or websites. There is no public feed, no discovery, no follower list and no public profile — a Study Group or a shared journal can only be reached by an invitation someone gave you. Your journals and prayers are never made public, and no social feature exposes them: the only things that ever leave your private space are something you deliberately sent to a specific group and a journal you deliberately shared with specific people.

Service providers

We use MongoDB Atlas (database), Cloudinary (media storage), RevenueCat (purchases), Mailtrap (verification emails and the feedback you send us), an AI provider for the reflection features, and a voice provider for FaithLog’s spoken voice and narrated Bible readings. Each receives only the minimum needed for its function.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your journals, media, prayers, moods, stickers and account records from our systems. You can also delete individual journals, which removes them and their media from our storage.

Children

FaithLog is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
